CLINTON STREET

Kafka

COVENT GARDEN

Hither, thither, and yon
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
Peter, Paul, and Mary
Sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll

SONEPUR, BIHAR

BELLS AND SMELLS...

Sonepur, near Patna, a big elephant fair doubling as mela
The Ganaga and Jamuna rivers converging to create mystical influences....
throngs of pilgrims walking across the river

FLEE MARKET SCARE

Tu n'a pas peur qu'on te pique tes photos?' me demande un ami bien intentionné.
Maintenant j'ai peur...
une autre chose à laquelle penser, zut!

GINGEE

ainsi que Vijay avec son air serieux...

MAHABALIPURAM

J' HESITE

These pictures are part of a series I worked on for years back in the 80s called: 'Inner desolation and loss'. I tried to make a small book but could never really put the word 'end' to it.
It is now obsolete.

"All those comings and goings between Milan and London
Like a frightened mouse, scuffling around at the first stirring of an emotion ... flight , flight...
A large cage filled with snow. The camera like a shield, the camera like a net with which to try and catch, what?
Unconsciously, to still, maybe.
Wings fluttering, ending up by the flames of a candle."

NEW YORK CITY

12 YEARS OLD

12 years old in Luang Prabang

A BOOK ABOUT DEATH

"As a child, going to sleep was difficult. I was afraid of the black hole.
I would fall into a dream easily  and then suddenly  awake with a start as I was falling, falling into some dark bottomless void.
To postpone sleep I would call to my brothers, whispering, beckoning them to my bedside.
I told them stories to keep myself awake. Completely under my spell, we made a magic circle."

By the way, my greatest aspiration in life is to have a good sense of humour...
This project , a kind of 'retour en arrière'
does not change my resolve

CLINTON STREET- NYC 1982

I was starting to get into hatha yoga big way.
Still a shattered vessel somehow, on the way to mending
I was meeting very interesting people, as always a mix of good and bad .
Phototography my great passion
the East Village, the Lower East Side, my territories.

MEMORY

One had a lovely face
And two or three had charm,
But charme and face were in vain
because the mountain grass
Cannot but keep the form
Where the mountain hare has lain

NY

The Hudson river and the menacing clouds,  I think of the plane which landed  there a few months ago, the captain's bravery...
New york again
I am not the same
